e can think of no better way to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pastor Percy Gutteridge’s birth than to reissue his extremely helpful book, Faith Is Substance.  Coming as it does from its author’s many decades of abiding in Christ, walking in the Spirit by faith, and opening of the Scriptures, the book approaches the subject of faith in a uniquely practical, deep, and heart-changing way.

This new edition, edited and annotated by Jim and Denise Kerwin, rolls off the presses with a newer, more readable format than the first edition, and an appendix of the full lyrics of all the hymns Pastor Gutteridge quotes in the book.  Profits from direct online sales of this book are being donated to one of Pastor Gutteridge’s favorite outreaches, Foundation for His Ministry, Inc. (FFHM).

Founded in 1966 by Chuck and Charla Pereau, Foundation for His Ministry is dedicated to making disciples of Jesus Christ and to meeting the basic needs of “the least of these My brethren” (Matthew 25:40).  FFHM cares for two hundred children in three orphanages in the Mexican states of Baja California, Oaxaca, and Michoacan, but its multifaceted ministry encompasses much more, including child and adult evangelism, literacy programs, a Bible Institute, prison outreach, daycare centers, a print shop and an upholstery shop, schools, a home for FFHM young adults attending university and technical school, a drug rehabilitation center, a home for abused women and children, a disabled children’s learning center, and a medical center.  Visit www.ffhm.org to learn more about this dynamic missionary outreach.

Specially for the occasion of the book’s release, John and Ann Gutteridge (Percy’s son and daughter-in-law) have shared with our readers a helpful timeline of Percy’s life.  Son Peter has written an engaging, personal set of reminiscences of the father he remembers.  We thank them for their contributions to the celebration.  We’re also extremely grateful to Brother Murry Whiteman for the impressive cover art he designed and contributed for the new edition.
