Gutteridge Centennial Project Status

September 26, 2009 will mark the centennial of the birth of the Rev. Percy Gutteridge, beloved pastor, Bible teacher, counselor, and mentor to many.  We wish to commemorate this event by making available for the first time in book form a series of Pastor Gutteridge’s teachings on the Holy Spirit.  The goal, Lord willing, is to issue the book in September 2009.  All profits from the book (if any) will be paid directly to one of Pastor Gutteridge’s favorite orphanage ministries in Mexico, as designated by the executors of his estate.

Currently, Pastor Gutteridge’s messages on the Holy Spirit are only available in audio format.  They have been digitized and posted on this web site for free download.  Our plan is to enlist ten individuals to transcribe one message each.  Other than a personal computer with word processing software and speakers (or headphones), no special equipment is required.  Free Windows-based transcription software will be provided to the volunteers.  (We will “go the extra mile” to find equivalent software for Mac and Linux users, if need be.)  The software works with MP3 files and it seems to be compatible with most word-processing software.

The messages are typically 60 minutes long and personal experience indicates that it can take a novice transcriber 10 to 12 hours to type out and re-check a message of that length.  Transcribers’ names will appear in an acknowledgements page in the forthcoming book.

In the table below you will find a complete list of the ten messages which comprise Pastor Percy Gutteridge’s Holy Spirit series.  Which message should you transcribe? Whatever title intrigues you!  (See the chart below for the subjects which still remain available.)  But this is on a “first come, first served” basis, so please don’t start work on anything until you E-MAIL THE EDITOR and get your choice confirmed.  Instructions and a link to the transcription software source will be sent via e-mail once an assignment is confirmed.

Our working deadline for transcriptions to be completed and submitted is August 31, 2008.  (This year-in-advance deadline allows the editors sufficient time to proof and edit your submissions for posting on the website, then to compile the separate messages into a prepared manuscript for publication in September 2009.)  Thank you for your help with this project to honor the memory and ministry of Pastor Gutteridge!

P.S.: If we get more volunteers than we have messages to assign (happy problem to have!), we will propose that other audios by Pastor Gutteridge be transcribed.  The resulting articles won't appear in the centennial book, but they will appear here on the web site for all visitors to read.
